I have HP PSC 2355 and it works perfectly for me with hpoj and hpijs.
I'm able to scan and print without any problems. Accessing digital cards
is also easy through general usb-storage interface - you just mount it like
pendrive.

Scanning works using the HPOJ low-level driver together with its SANE backend "hpoj".
Did you install them? After you will be able tu use xsane frontend.

FC4 comes with xsane - use that.
Your scanner is also a printer and you use it to print OK.
Against the printer driver (hpijs?) there are some driver notes - have you read them? They tell you what you need to get the thing to scan ... basically, you need hpoj ... FC4 comes with hpoj and libusb.
Next you need to learn about sane and sane-usb.
Read the man pages. The sane-usb man page includes a howto for getting usb scanners to work. For eg. Have you tried running sane-find-scanner as root?
There is documentation and a faq at the sane project page: www.sane-project.org
Now - I'm pointing you to all this because there are too many things that could be causing your symptoms, all of which are well documented. It is not suppopsed to be hard - however, it is tricky to do by message board.
Once you've been through the faqs and that howto, you can tell us how you got on.
