I`ve downloaded and installed the latest ATI drivers from ATI site (I have 9600Pro).
But 3d acceleration doesn`t work - I see it in xorg.log

Did anybody resolve this problem ?
Could you provide, plese, clear steps to get it worked ?

Ah, imdeemvp, I tried the ati installer just like you, but on my Radeon 9600 pro it accomplished exactly nothing. No acceleration at all. The included fgl_glxgears won't even run, and I only get 90fps in glxgears after the so called "install" of the drivers. Tuxracer is slow as molasses. The install clearly doesn't work at all.

Trying to run fgl_glxgears gives the following error code:

X Error of failed request: BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request: 142 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 5 (X_GLXMakeCurrent)
Serial number of failed request: 33
Current serial number in output stream: 33

Anyone got a clue? Looked through the xorg.log and seems to indicate the driver is starting up fine, but its not giving me any acceleration. glxgears still reporting about 96fps.
