I just set up a smoothwall 2.0 server (its a software router www.smoothwall.org based on some linux distro I think redhat 9). I had an old dlink router with the IP addressing scheme of 192.168.0.1 . The new one also has an ip addressing scheme of 192.168.0.1 . I had DHCP set up on my Core 3 box. It would work fine with the old dlink router. I could ping 192.168.0.1 from the Core 3 box and I could use the internet. I switched in the smoothwall server and now I cannot ping the gateway or use the internet. My windows box's are working fine still. I tried setting my network info staticly and it didn't help.
One thing I did notice is when I type route I get the following:
Kernel IP routing table
Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric Ref Use Iface
192.168.1.0 * 255.255.255.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
169.254.0.0 * 255.255.0.0 U 0 0 0 eth0
If I wait about 30 seconds this shows up and then it returns me
default 192.168.1.1 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth0
On my Dlink router if I type route I get it all at once.
Also I have another box I put a fresh install of core 3 on and it is having the same problems.
Once again my problem is that I cannot ping the gateway (192.168.0.1). I cannot get on the internet (mainly because I cannont ping the gateway). Windows box's work fine. A fresh install will not help.
