i need help with a SiS900 ethernet card on my labtop, it doesn't get an IP from the DHCP server, and when i set an static IP i can ping it from outside but i can't ping anything from it..

This sounds like a mere firewall issue - Temporarily, try flushing your firewall rules by issuing, as root, iptables --flush

You can configure your firewall, although basic, using 'setup' from a terminal.
