Hello there to the fedora core Community

It seems like a silly question but I will ask it any way

I am seriouslly thinking about deleting MY OEM operating system no prizes for guesing which one, and replacing it for your current release N 4, which I have got from the latest edition of the DVD magazine Linux user and developer.

Most of my devices work without proplems under your operating system but some do not and some could need some extra tuning to work to their fullest capacity.

Fully working devices:

1 Epson stylus C42+ which has a very high quality print under linux and so far no errors.
2 Integrated sound card which makes the KDE intro sound magnificent.
3 Processor intel celeron 1.70 Ghz which hads no lock ups
4 memory 1x 128MB Samsung and 1x 512MB nanya with no problems
5 the wheell mouse wich works very well
6 my network card interated realteck RTL 8139 fast ethernet adapter which was detected correctly but not in use.

A -- Devices I can't seem to make work

1 My modem the so called hardware intel 536EP v92 modem
2 my scanner the packard bell 1200+

How can I make them work?

B -- Devices that work partially they could do better

1 My keyboard a generic 19 hotkeys for internet+power managment+Media control+Application keys, the keys are as follows

1 back www/file manager ## 2 forward www/file manager
2 stop browser ## 4 reload/refresh
5 search www/filemanager ## 6 www favourites
7 www home ## 8 email app
9 mute sound ## 10 sleep/power managment
11 voume - ## 12 Volume +
13 Play/Pause toggle ## 14 Stop media playback
15 previous track ## 16 next track
17 launch media player ## 18 launch file manager
19 Launch calculator

how can i make them work under fedora core?

2 MY integrated video card intel 82845GL graphics
It could do better 3D graphics then it currently does under linux how to make the 3D work better uder fedora core 4

3 Camera Nisis DV2

I can transfer pictures from the camera ibto the file manager by cut and paste without losing picture quality
i can as well use the disk copy from the device and write files to the device

I can't use the live video
but it is not as important as the other devices

sorry for such long post will you be able to help thank you for your time.
I am pretty new at configuring devices.

Are you building the drivers as downloaded from intel's site?

FC4 uses gcc4, which is the latest version of the gnu c compiler. This is apparently another example of source that doesnt build under gcc4 - install the compatibility library for gcc3 and it should compile just fine.

[QUOTE=Ind-PC_student]2 my scanner the packard bell 1200+

I'm not sure about this one, couldnt find the scanner anywhere... is 1200+ the exact model number?

For your keyboard, use Keyboard Shortcuts, under Preferences.

2 MY integrated video card intel 82845GL graphics
It could do better 3D graphics then it currently does under linux how to make the 3D work better uder fedora core 4

Sorry, I think the drivers that are included are the best you'll get with intel's onboard video. This may improve over time, but if you really want better graphics, get an nvidia or ati video card and use their drivers.

3 Camera Nisis DV2

Don't know about this camera, but does it act as a mass storage device when connected via usb? If so, you should be able to browse the camera like a drive and grab the videos that way.

I can't use the live video

Its probably not video4linux compatible. http://www.video4linux.org

Not a problem - hopefully what I mentioned helps :)

1 modem intel356ep -- not sure what to download ar how to compile the drivers -- never done compiling before

2 scanner Packard bell diamond 1200+ no idea how to properly configure the device

3 camera not that important it is a multi-function camear still/video/sound recorder with live video capabilities for video conference -- but advice on a web cam for fedora would be usefull i like video conferencing.

4 Graphics card -- if i buy the new card can i still use it side by side with the onboard one or i am restricted to only one?

5 the key board hotkeys are blue and on top of the keyboard on other linux distros they are not detected and I would like to use them on KDE!

thanks again
