Hi,

I've installed Fedora Core 3 onto an HP Pavilion zv5000. I have nearly everything working nicely. Even the wireless. However, I took a look at the /var/log/message file this evening, and noticed a constant repeating series of log entries:

Aug 18 23:59:55 localhost kernel: ide: failed opcode was 100
Aug 18 23:59:56 localhost kernel: hdc: packet command error: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
Aug 18 23:59:56 localhost kernel: hdc: packet command error: error=0x50

This is most interesting. And perhaps alarming. I'm trying to determine what exactly this is.

If anyone has an idea, please let me know... is my hdc failing?

The hdc is a DVD read/write CD read/write optical drive. I had a DVD data disk inserted. When I take the DVD disk out (it is DVD RW), the errors stop. So, it seems to be something with the DVD. Is it an error in the format/data? Or, is it a hardware failure happening?

Thanks in advance.
