My Ati drivers disappeared

Hello all. I'm sorry if this is already discussed somewhere else. I did a search and didn't come up with much.
To the business.
I have a Radeon 9800 Pro and had the latest working drivers. I used Yum to install this and all was well. I even checked the Ati control to see the drivers being used and it was correct. Well, just now i installed the latest 1.32b quake 3 linux patch to correct the no sound error. Went to start it up and boom, it said there was no OpenGL driver. Well, I checked my current drivers and they had been reverted back to Mesa's. I can't install the ati drivers by Yum agian because its already installed and I can't remove them because they're in use. So, how can I remove them and then install the rpm that i have on my desktop.

Ok, so a new twist to the situation. Well, I read somwhere that in order to remove the video drivers you have to go into text mode. I did just that and it still gives me that it is need for the kernel. Also, when I go to install the latest ati drivers which are supposed to be compatible with the new kernel as of today, it gives me a whole list of conflicts and wont install them. Anyone got any ideas?

Edit: I forgot to mention that when the kernal boots up and initializes everything. It says something about a fglrx.ko missing or something.
