My suggestion is that when submitting a screen shot the user should be compelled to detail what applications or special configuration steps where necessary to produce the uploaded screenshot. By, compel I mean the user should be able to specify what WM, GUI, Icon set were used. Even have the ability to upload configuration files. Make this an intermediate step before the screen shot gets uploaded as a reminder to the user that this information is wanted. But, of course don't require that some massive form has to be filled out just to submit.
