Hmm, what about a section with forums for all of the test releases, such as Fedora C2 and Test 1 x86_64?

That sounds like a good idea to me. That way people don't mix questions related to test releases with those for end releases (1, 2 etc.).

okay, we will add Test Releases forum tomorrow then :)

Oh, I got another one: how about a Resources forum. Explanation: a place to post all the helpful sites, message boards, free online books, faqs etc... as this kinda stuff doesn't quite fit under How-to.

the search tool has a minimum length... so a search for something like "live cd" wont work..
how about getting rid of the minimum length

ROFL, I just beat you to it :p
I reduced it to 2, 1 is unnecessary.

When I first went to the main page (looks great btw) I was looking around for the link to the forums and it was kinda hard to find, maybe we could make a bigger link/button? Or maybe my text is just too small :)

dang, quick feedback, I like that :) Hmm, while I am typing here there are no smilies in the quick reply dialogue, do you think this could be added or unnecessary? As the only one I can remember to be able to use is the standard :)

The "New" icon on the forum page takes a lot of resorces to display 14 times. When I'm vewing this page, my cpu usages goes from 60-80% to 2-5% just by scrolling to the bottom of the page where these icons are not displayed.

I have a small suggestion that can make good things to people who post question here : a link to see unanswered post.
If there is already one, I have not see it. I think that might be a good thing because when I log in a forum, I always check the new unanswered post.

I have a couple of syuggestion for the forums.
1. I think a forum for Servers and Security would be good idea, or make it a part of the Networking forum.
2. The software topic has a very broad range. You may consider sepatating certain areas to new forums (i.e. Window Managers, Audio/Video Apps, etc...).

I have not experienced this problem. That doesn not mean it isn't a problem of course! Are you using a fairly old CPU by chance?
a link to see unanswered post.
Is this not what you're after?
http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/index.php?s=&action=getnew
This is found on the front page under link "New Posts" and at the forum index at the top right under link "View New Posts".
If you're specifically looking for posts with zero replies (the above links refer to all new posts whether unaswered or not), then there's currently no link. I will discuss this with Ug/tux.
In the mean time, there's a "hack" to get this same result:
Click the search link at the top of the forum index.
In the "Search By Keyword" field, enter *.
In the "Sort Results By..." field select number of replies and ascending order.
Click "Perform Search" (or <enter>)

I quite like the idea of a security forum. It is (*should) be an important topic for users. Servers is fair play, however, it is generally either a software config/setup issue or a network connection problem that can be covered in the existing forums.
For the sake of organisation, splitting the software forum sounds logical, but it decreases the visual simplicity of the forums which may not be too bad if people will have more an idea where to post there questions
All in all, good suggestions, and they will be equally considered.

A server forum sounds like a good idea, and I'll implement it.
But I have to disagree about the Software forum for the time being. As it is, we don't get enough activity there to warrant sub-forums on any particular one issue. It might happen somewhere else down the line however.

I would also like a "view my post" link, just to see people that I help if everything is ok. Sometime, I simply forget that I demand more info and never return to see it...
Thanks

I created a thread with one question. I got some answers and thought that my problem were solved and marked the thread as Resolved. But after some time I noticed that my problem was solved only for one situation. In another situation the problem wasn't solved. I wanted to mark that thread as Open again, but I couldn't.
Maybe there should be possibility to mark a thread back to Open or Half-solved or...
The point is that I shouldn't have marked that thread to Resolved so quickly. I was just fool or smth. But what I want to say is that maybe others may face that situation too in the future. Maybe some other persons are too so quick as me :p :(

I think that there should be MSN Messenger Handle info too in the user profile. For example I don't have other accounts but MSN Messenger account. I think that quite many people who turn to Linux have MSN Messenger account.

I dont know if its just my screen resolution or if its a thing with the site, but on the main forums page the two colums that say newest posts and newest topics, the descriptions only take up about half of the space before the area where the posters name is. Like i said, my resolution may be higher than that of the servers, but the descriptions only show the first couple words and the last word usually. Im not complaining, but some of the descriptions i have to wonder what the heck is that about cause i can only read a little of the description. I dunno, just letting you guys know

It would be great if the thread status were seen in the search results too. So I can see what questions have been answered and look them at first.

If you hover your mouse pointer over a link, a tool tip will pop up showing you the full title description.

Hi skoe,
What aspect of the interface did you find unintuitive? The button name, the button location or something else?

I was looking around fedoranews and here and other places, and havent seen a real great or indepth tutorial on how to use yum to update things. The one at Fedroa News is pretty good ill admit, but it only shows the basics and pretty quick. Its enough to get up and running, but i know theres more to yum than that. Could somebody write a really nice and simple (for the real noobs) article on yum? You guys know way more than me, thats why im suggesting it. Same goes for a nice KDE install guide. There are tons of em, and all seem to have a different method. Having one article that showed how to do it with yum and by downloading all hte individual rpms would be cool. there seems to be a lot od KDE questions, and if someone could write a really nice tutorial, i think it would answer a lot fo the basic "how do i install" and common problems kind of questions. Just an idea.

I tell ya what. I'll make it my task of the week to do a really good one for apt.
I'm on a modem, so I need something which dosen't need to download so many bloody headers. At the same time I've been meaning to make the definitive apt sources.list file - and I had promised it to Avatraxiom.
Sound alright?

sounds good to me. I like yum, but apt does the same thing. Just thought with 2-3 good articles, we could answer a lot of basic install questions

Huh, just noticed this. Whenever you post again in a post you posted to earlier (think for a min and youll get it) you get an email saying you answered your own post. Any way to fix this? No big deal, just find that i get like 5 emails a day cause i posted again in one i posted in earlier.

It would be great if there were a page that shows all threads where I have posted something. So you can see if there are some replies to your posts or you just want to quickly go to the thread you have started some times ago.

I think "Search" button next to your profile does that function. :)

That doesn't show if there are some replies to my posts. 'Subscribe to this Thread' function sends you email if there are some activities in that thread, but I don't use a email program and it is hard to keep track of my posts.
But whatever, never mind.

I uploaded the screenshot of my desktop and before submitting I pressed the preview button. It took too much time and I pressed the browser stop button and just clicked the submit button, but now there are two posts in the screeshot gallery and I think that the earlier post was made when I click the preview button. Strange.

One more question: if I see a double post, may I report it with the 'Report this post to a moderator' feature? If I click on that window it allows to report very dramatic mistakes only.
