Hi! I've got an update for the Unofficial Fedora FAQ (http://www.fedorafaq.org/) for you, today!
In addition to many minor updates, this update includes:
+ A method of installing FC4 using floppies.
+ Many new translations are ready: French, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Portuguese (Portugal), and Japanese
And we have even more translations coming up!
Let me know (http://www.fedorafaq.org/contribute/) if you have any suggestions for the FAQ! I'd really like to know if there are any frequently asked questions you're seeing that aren't yet answered in the FAQ.

I agree with that! The faq is a big help for newbies and for questions that get asked too many times.
I do have 1 thing, maybe you can add some info on wireless cards, like some links to howto's from this forum.

That sounds like it could be a good idea. If there was a single, central resource for wireless that had extremely simple explanations on what to do, I'd be willing to link to that.

-MaxI have made a howto a while ago for the rt2500 chipset, http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=285475
I found these in the howto section:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=63692
and ndiswrapper:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=29659
wg311t netgear card:
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=60150
I'm sure there are more howto's there for other chipsets too. Maybe people who have used them can put a link here?

I have used the FAQ frequently for setting up machines for myself, friends, family, and neighbors. It is a VERY big help with getting through all the extra addons in a timely manner. I like your new YUM setup.
That being said, I do not understand the changes to the process for loading Java. The way you originally had it, that was in-line with the release notes worked well. Where the bin file was downloaded, copied, and linked. I attempted the much more complicated way as it is currently docuemented after a recent re-install. The procedure went fine, but afterwards, the Java plugins (for me, the point of the whole exercise) did not work. I went back and did it per the release notes (and the way you previously had it posted) and it worked fine. Java is important on the web, and one of the first things a new installer is going to be looking to get working easily and simply.
Once again, this is the only issue I have EVER noticed. I have been using your doc sense I started using Fedora 2. It is a valuable tool to the community, and thanks for taking the time to keep it up, and make it available.

Well, I just changed it to not use the Dag packages anymore, because (a) they don't exist for FC4 and (b) they probably haven't really worked since FC3.
Could you send me an email (max -at- fedorafaq dot org) explaining a bit more what the problem is that you ran into (other than the plugin thing, which I know about, and I'm trying to find a good way to deal with it simply).

The Dag repo for FC4 does exist although most of the RPMForge stuff is now in freshrpms and dries. See http://apt.sw.be/fedora/4/en/i386/RPMS.dag/.

Hey that was quick but why not :-
- merge your efforts with sfinley, fedoraguide, m mirander by "banging your heads together" to produce a docbook? Look at Charles Heselton's security guide (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=72934) which while comparing poorly to securing debian or the gentoo security handbook, was enhanced by contribution from the mailing lists?

Hi Max,
tx for your work!
I would tell you that the command line from root "yum --enablerepo=dag install mozilla-acroread" doesn't work.
It would also be quite useful the command for RealPlayer, QuickTime and Xine (accordin to me the best movie viewer ever)
Tx again,
Atlantis

Hi Bitrain,
well, in reply to your question, I have not verified it with my eyes, but I have downloaded installed the yum.conf with the procedure suggested in and by Fedorafaq.org
# Make sure that you're using my yum configuration.
# Open a Terminal.
# Become root.
# Type:
yum --enablerepo=dag install mozilla-acroread
and that, then, I hold that it have to work...
Bye,
Atlantis

It seems Dag's repository no longer supply packages for FC4.
RPMForge or Dries don't have the package, so you probably need to build one fpr yourself.
