Hi this is my first go at a forum so please be patient.
I have a problem with bootup, hangs at initializing storage network audio.
This has been an intermittent problem since fc1 but having just installed fc4 it has become worse to the stage of removing it and reinstalling fc3. Tried stopping acpi kudzu ( thats another story )but to no avail.
System intel P4 3.05 1gig memory sata hd nvidia card. Any help would be appreciated.

greypower,
after much research (i was having the same problem)...try this...vi /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and edit out everything here:
#Everything else (duck and cover)
for module in $other : do

sorry, got cut off...
echo -n $module
load_module $module
done
aparently, the kernel gets hung up on other modules (i had more than one that gave me trouble). NOTE that it is NOT an ALSA problem. hope that helps.

everytime you moved from one fedora version to the other, have you 'upgraded' or made a clean install??

i had tried a clean install but was having a problem with the red hat kernel and network modules. after much frustration, i went back to a working FC2 and upgraded using a vanilla kernel. that was the only way i could get my tulip driver to actually work. for some reason, FC wanted to change the module to an etherexpress or something and it quit working else their kernel would not boot (seg faulted on init insertion of network modules).

I just completed a fresh install of FC4 on some generic P4 with a SiS 661 / 5513 chipset.
FC4 froze solid initializing hardware after the word "audio". The cure was to disable "legacy USB support" in BIOS. It would also boot with legacy support enabled, but only if no USB devices were connected. I could plug the USB mouse in immediately after "audio done" and the mouse would work fine.
