View Full Version : FC4 upgrade from FC3: boot fails

The FC3 I installed a few weeks ago worked fine - dual-boot with Windows.
I did an upgrade install of FC4, and on boot I get

failed to create /dev/console 17
PAM audit_open()/null 17
failed Permission denied
unable to read /var/
Enabling swap space [OK]

Then it hangs.

Windows XP is on one disk, FC4 is on another disk.
Confession: I did not check the CD integrity, but there were no errors during installation.

Does anyone recognize these symptoms?
Can I ignore this issue, and do a full install, instead of an upgrade?

Regards,
Bob

Thanks! I'll try an install.
Should I do anything to prepare? E.g., should I delete the disk partition where I have FC4 now?

(Aside: I'm really antsy about installing. I tried to install Suse 9.1 a few months ago, and it did so much damage I had to write zeros on the hard disk before I could reinstall windows.)

I went ahead and re-installed.
Worked fine.
Thanks very much.
