Hi all,

I have a bit of a problem mounting cd's/dvds. as soon as I mount them my system crashes (not just X, everything freezes completely). I think this started after I messed with the permissions on my /dev/cd and dvd things since I had problems accessing the drive when multiple users were logged in. It seems that it resets whatever I do everytime I reboot though so I would assume that the permissions don't cause the havoc. if they do, that'll be an easy way out (if only I knew what the right settings are).

anyway here's some details:

fstab:
/dev/hdb /media/cdrecorder auto pamconsole,exec,noauto,managed 0 0

permissions on the various /dev/cd|dvd things:
owner: me.disk
permissions: 600 (read write for owner and nothing else)

anywhere else I need to be looking?

other interesting stuff: the drive works since it succesfully boots knoppix. While I've had some recent struggles with nautilus I have the same problem in KDE.

any suggestions would be apreciated.

Could this be a kernel issue?

yes, in fact it is.

It works fine under 2.6.11.
I had tried going back to .11 before but apperantly the cd I used to test was a bad burn to begin with.
