Hi all

FC4 64 bit running on Athlon 64 2800, 512 RAM. Whenever samba is running and my windoze box is on (ie there is active samba connection - linux server, windoze client) the system slows down DRAMATICALLY. Not 10-20%, feels more like 40-50%!!!

Performance hit is across the board (not just HDD behaviour), all types of apps (multimedia, surfing net, graphics). My samba config is quite simple (its just the default file tweaked abit). (happy to post it if someone can be ar*ed to read it)

Are there any obvious places to start looking? (linux n00b, help much appreciated).

on a related note: when I use smbclient to samba into the windoze box, I can only get in using the guest account (thus read only), none of the local users set up in windows work - anybody know a way around this? (I know its not strictly linux related, nevertheless!).
