Being a bunch of friendly, fedora-using people, I think it might be a good idea to have a marketplace spot up - somewhere we we could exchange some hardware, sell off the cheap older stuff, or pick up that old rig to toss fc on.
Thoughts?

I moderate on two automotive forums, we both have a Classifieds section. Most of the time it works out good, and people don't scam, but it does happen. When it does go south, it is usually a drama. To my knowledge it has never been a detrement to either site, other than someone getting mad because their personal info was posted by the person they scammed.
It could something to think about, but I am not in charge.

My personal opinion is that eBay and nntp 'forsale' newsgroups have this area pretty much covered. No need to reinvent the wheel.

Well the only reason I disagree there is this, like other forums, is a community - we tend to prefer to buy products or services from those we are familiar with. I know I'd feel more comfortable buying a pc from here, or the many bike & other forums I'm on, then on ebay. Brings a (smiley) face to the name, one you're familiar with.

Interesting idea, but as mentioned before there already is eBay among others. Perhaps you can tell someone you met at FedoraForum about your eBay auction.
Also, Linux user groups are a good place to swap hardware, and your local one is usually close to you.

I don't thin he has an Ebay auction (maybe something I am not aware of), just trying to say it might be nice to barter goods in the community instead of a mass setting such as online auctions. It is a little easier on the mind dealing with community, rather than a more faceless entity. Still torn on the idea myself, I like tech forums to stay tech, I hardly ever even look in the classifieds on my own forums unless I am looking for something

Thats exactly what I'm saying :)
*Edit* Not to mention I'd much rather give away an older system I don't have the space for to someone like a younger student interested in fedora, or looking to set up a small fileserver. Maybe this pain in the ass printer ive got behind me, if someone wants to write drivers, they could keep it.
Thats what I'm talking about.
