I am running FC4 on a compaq presario m2007us laptop.
Everything else seems to work fine except for the sound. I have a AC'97 sound card.
When I do a "detect soundcard" from gnome it picks up my correct sound card.
This is what it returns
VEndor - Intel
Model Corporation 82801DB/DBL /DBN (ICH4 / ICH4-L / ICH4-M ) AC' 97 Audio Controller

Module - Snd-intel 8x0

THe sound card works fine with XP on the same laptop. I had installed Ubuntu linux on the laptop for sometime and the sound card worked fine with that too.

Any help in how to start the sound card is highly appreciated.

Thanks.

type alsamixer in command line and try to ajust ur parameter... i mean mic headphone etc.
once done press escape.. this will save ur setting...check it

I don't use gnome..but I'm sure it has an audio mixer..correct?? When I installed fc4 my sound "wasn't working" either..I had to go into the sound mixer (kmix in kde) and uncheck 1394 optical raw and select analog digital in the "switches" section..maybe that will help
