Hi,
While my Fedora Core 4 installation didn't have any issue in my Dell XPS Gen 3 system, I don't hear a sound.
Hardware browser shows that FC-4 detected the correct sound-card 'Creative Labs SB Audigy', but 'tests' out of 'Sound card detection'{ Desktop -> System settings } doesn't yeild anything.
What is the problem ?
Thanks,
Kramer.

Hhey there,
Open up a terminal and type alsamixer. Try various setting until your sound starts sounding.

I started 'alsamixer' as root and this what I've
Master, Bass, Trebble, PCM, PCM Cent, PCM Front, PCM Left, PCM Surr, Front, Surround, Center, LFE, Synth, Line, CD, Aux, Analog M, HD Audigy, HD Analog( 4 of them ), HD SPDIF( 4 of them ) : are all mostly 100 or above 50%
IEC958 0 : One of them is 100<>100, other is 0 with 00 above( what does it mean )
Audigy A : MM
Tone : MM
Audigy S : 48000
Mic : 0
Desktop -> preferences -> Sound -> Enable sound server startup == unchecked
Still I don't hear a peep.

Open kmix, go to the 3th tab and enable or disable one or more switches there, that should give you sound.

There is a gnome equivalent of kmix too, but I don't know it's exact name.

Go to Volume Control in GNOME and bring the volume bars to max.

I'm having a similar problem... My sound card is detected and I get "system sounds" but I can't seem to play CDs... I'm using FC4, and KsCD... but I get no output, I've tried playing with the KMix settings, but don't seem to get anywhere... any suggestions??
Thanks
Paul

I don't have kmix. My volume controls are to their max. I still don't hear nothing.
Is there any other way to fix this ?
Thanks.

if you've never used alsamixer, the "mm" means that the switch is off. to turn it on, you use the arrow keys to highlight that column and then press "m". Voila, now you should see "00" in green. That means it's on. I wouldn't be able to tell you which ones to turn off and on though.
Im on FC4 with an audigy 2zs. My card detects and plays the sample sound. I can get systems sounds, but not sounds from the cd. I've seen several postings suggesting messing with kmix and alsamixer should do the trick, but no finagling will get cd audio. I have a hunch that i'm missing some kind of analog/digital cable that phycially connects my cd to the mobo. I'll look into it.
