View Full Version : Gnomad2 doesn't work in Fedora 4 (64 bit)

I just took off FC3 and put FC4 (2.6.11-1.1369_FC4) on this machine. Pretty cool! It definitely has a faster startup, and a few bugs, but very promising! Anyway, onto my problem. When this machine had Fedora 3 it was really easy to install Gnomad2, just got the necessary rpm's and installed away. In FC4, I had to compile things from source because there aren't that many rpm's yet. I compiled first the dependents of Gnomad2, libnjb and libid3tag and the installed fine. Then I compiled and installed gnomad2, and that installed fine. Now, whenever I try to start gnomad2 from the terminal, I get this error:

gnomad2: error while loading shared libraries: libnjb.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have removed and re-compiled libnjb a couple times, with no change in results. I also recompiled gnomad2, once, too, and no change... Does anyone know what's going on here? A bug in FC4? Something I can get around? Thanks in advance!
And yes, the tar.gz files I downloaded and the version of Fedora I installed are both 64 bit.
This is the machine:

AMD 64 3300+ @ 2.4 ghz
1 GB DDR
160 GB HD

I think I got gnomad2 from the Dries web site as an rpm. I then did a 'yum gnomad2.rpm' and yum tracked down all the dependencies. I ran gnomad2, plugged in my Dell DJ (really a Nomad) and it picked up the player. I was amazed it worked. I am using Fedora Core 4 with gnome 2.12. I don't know about the 64-bit version but it should work the same. On a funny note gnomad2 works better than the software that came with the player designed for Windows XP. Keep working at it because once you get it going it is excellent.

Thanks for the response! I got it to work fine on FC3 & 4, 32 bit. You're right, it is awesome, very fast, very easy, etc.. However the 64 bit version never worked for me (on Fedora 4, 64 bit). I tried the 32 bit version on 64 bit Fedora too, and that did not work either. Right now, though, the 64 bit machine I have is actually not in use, so it's not an issue anymore... (maybe it's fixed?). Keep on going Fedora & Fedora users!

I agree. As more multimedia solutions like gnomad2 appear all the naysayers out there that complain 'linux is not a desktop OS' will have to change their tune. It just thrills me to no end that the nomad devices actually work *better* on linux with gnomad2 than on windows xp. When I used to use the XP software I would prepare myself for only moving over one album at a time and if the album was too large I would move part of it over. Very annoying. After about 3 transfers it would crash. I have *never* seen it crash on linux yet. Take that you anti-multimedia anti-desktop linux Windows XP lackies. Enjoy your periodically crashing Microsquish 'approved' flimsy applications.
