View Full Version : Partial Screen corruption with Fedora 3

Hello All,

I am a first time Linux user. I've installed Fedora Core 3 onto a Compaq 700Z Presario laptop. From the first graphical installation screen to the current install of X, I have a corruption that "blurs" the bottom third of the screen. I can scroll the mouse into the blur area and interact with buttons I know are there, but the corruption remains.

The Presario runs on an S3 Twister (KN133). I have attempted to alter the resolution as well as the graphics driver (stepped it down to a generic S3 driver). I have ported the signal from the laptop out to a CRT monitor. On the CRT the blur is not present, but the area effected by the blur is just black and not present.

Any help would be appreciated. I am a total Linux noob, so any help you provide will probably have to be spelled out pretty clearly to be of any assistance.

Thanks,

Andy

Is the blur there while POSTing or only once the graphical installer starts?

Can you post your /etc/xorg/conf and /var/log/Xorg.0.log files please?

When posting these, do it as attachements.

I solved it.

The right graphics driver was not selected on setup. I found it by trial and error.

Thanks for the replies.

I am experiencing the same screen blurring. Its as though the right margin is moved way in
and the bottom third is blurred.

Which driver finally solved the problem? My notebook has the same card.
