What does these beeps mean?

I rarely shut my computer down but on the last two occassions, I noticed that it gave three quick beeps and refused to start. Though it happened twice, each time the computer started on the third trial and ran fine after that. Any ideas what those three beeps mean?
I have rread the Abit's manual but there is nothing there. The computer is Abit KT7A RAID Mainboard running AMD 1.4GHz Athlon with nVidia FX5600 dual output card. The /home directory is on the raid (2x80GB HD) but the rest of the system is spread over a 20 & 40 GB HD. There is also 2 Optical writers. A 350W Antec poer supply plugs into a UPS Back-Up Pro #1400. I disconnected my HP Laserjet6l printer until I can sort out this beeping.

In my experience those beeps are bios related. Often to indicate a problem or misconfiguration with motherboard. Maybe a search on google to find out what these 3 beeps mean.

Check your RAM. The problem is there.

i had a board that would do that as a heat warning. didnt realise what it was until i let the smoke out of the processor though :rolleyes:

it is hardware related and sounds like it fixes it's self when it gets warm, i would remove all cards and ram and reseat them again. Because things expand and contract as they get hot and cold they can work loose. i found most times just puuling them out and putting them back in fixes the problem.

Remember to wear a static strap, if you don't have one then make sure you touch un painted metal of the case before touching the card/ram. if you put the cards down on something make sure it isn't platic or carpet as they can create static. Also never hand a card/ram to someone else as that will kill them (ever rubbed you feet on carpet and then touched someone), put them down 1st and the let the other person pick it up.
