...not in WindozeXP. I know it's weird to post an XP question here, but everyone in the Windoze forums is going to tell me this is a Linux issue, and I know it's not.

...in Linux, but hangs in XP.

The problem is a video card I installed after I set up my system to dual boot. Linux (FC3, vanilla ISO) identified the card (a PNY Nvidia GeForce 5500, I think) and the system just worked. No problems, nothing. I didn't have to even install any drivers. I don't use Windows often, so I didn't even think about there being a problem with XP. But when I boot into XP I briefly see the XP flying window logo, then it just turns black and that's that. The hard disk light flickers irregularly, but it never gets beyond that.

I know the hardware is working fine under Linux, which makes me confident this is "just" a driver issue. Once they're updated I'll be all set...I hope. What I need help with is how to actually accomplish this. Ideally, I can use Linux to mount the Windows partition and replace the old driver with a new one (I just downloaded several)...but I've no idea where to go or what files to replace. I don't even know if it will work---will it? Has anyone out there had a similar problem and found a good solution?

I've been a Linux user so long (since 1995) that I've all but forgotten how to do anything but point and click in Windows. Can anyone help out or suggest a good plan of action (with fairly clear instructions?)

Many thanks in advance!!!

the easiest thing is probably to boot into winxp safe mode. when xp boots you see the (usually pretty quick) loading windows across the bottom of the screen beforee the winxp logo comes up. as soon as you see that hit F8 a few times and you will go to the xp boot menu. i would choose safe mode with networking support, which will start in safe mode but still allow internet access so you can download the proper driver. from there it may look a bit odd but you should be able to boot into windows, get the driver, install it, and if its just a driver problem it should be fixed.

Thank you so much. I got it into VGA mode and then installed the drivers (I had a CD, just used that) and then on reboot it all worked like a charm. Whew!
