So I've given up tinkering with this "GE" (jasco) optical mouse.
Before rushing out to buy another useless piece of hardware, it
seemed prudent to ask the cognoscenti for sage advice:

What optical mice actually _do_ work with FC3?
The ideal unit would be PS/2 or USB, not wireless, with just 3
buttons, or 2 buttons plus a scrollwheel--I'm not looking for a
mini-accordion.

I'm using a MS intellimouse Explorer v3.0, USB variety (but can be converted to PS/2) 4 button (2 top, 2 thumb) and scrollwheel. Seems to work fine. Of course, you have not defined what you mean by "work". I only use left/right click and mouse movement and haven't played with the rest.

Most mouses with 1 - 5 buttons will work, if you have more then 3 butons you have to set the rest of the buttons up manually. I'm using a trust wireless (non-optical) mouse with 5 buttons and it works.

define "work"

any mouse should work to a certain extent.... ie , left right and middle as well as movement.

every one I have ever pluged in--usually just cheap optical mice/mouses, usb--ps2--any and all of them have worked for me. Right now I have a cheap Logitech 2 button, scroll wheel--but have used Micro Inovations--Compaq--MS$ junk.

You plugin the mouse and it works :)
Mouse movement, left, right click, wheel. That's all I need.
For extra buttons you need some configuration.
