this is on a dell 5150 laptop.

I had the nvidia drivers working just fine with the 774 kernel, this update to 27 has made me unable to install any nvidia drivers.

I install via yum, reboot, and i get nothing but an error about the nvidia kernel not being installed.. or if i install using nvidia's sh *.run method, it boots up, gets to where it would load x, and gives me an unreadable screen of just broken lines, my only choice is a hard reboot.

Any ideas?

Try not to cross-post the same message to multiple forums. See the forum Guidlines: http://www.fedoraforum.org/?view=guide

When new kernels are released, it often takes a little while for the updated nvidia drivers to appear in the yum repos. Perhaps this is the problem. Also, it's not advisable to use *both* the rpm drivers and the nvidia installer - use one, not both.

Another thing you might want to try is examining your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf for errors.

i didnt know i could delete the other thread. So, i made this one intending to give up on the other one because it was obviously not getting any attention.

should i try removing all the nvidia modules? and.. how would i do it? lol.

And i tried the correct rpm. Where would the error log be so i can post it? when it does seem to load, (the garbled screen) i cant see anything to know whats going on. Otherwise i end up getting an 'x failed to start' window and have to build a new configuration (automated utility) to get it started, and then i obviously lose my nvidia driver.. :(.

Hopefully i'm descriptive enough, its just i'm a little tired and frustrated.. :P

EDIT: here's what i get from root..

[root@laptop ~]# modprobe nvidia
FATAL: Error inserting nvidia (/lib/modules/2.6.11-1.27_FC3/kernel/drivers/video/nvidia/nvidia.ko): Invalid module format
