Hi,
First before I get to what is on my mind, I want to say the Forum is great, and even though I been only registered recently, I am impressed. To be honest I probably would have never joined if it wasn’t for the a friend emailing me with a link to check out a cool wallpaper. I am not a big forum type, and this is the first I ever joined. I guess that’s why I have a question about Forums, cause I never had a Linux question I couldn’t answer or that someone had solved long before me a I just replicated their solution.

Ok I have been hanging out in the forums just reading what people are saying, I must say this is the Largest Community of people like me I ever been in. I even tried to help a some people, mostly about the things I feel passionate about. I am sure you guys can click on my posts LOL, heck I think there’s only 11 maybe now. ;) Well my point is mulling around I notice there is a couple of Fedora Forum members that posting meaningless (barely complete sentences) posts, I think in some vague attempt to push their post count up like some Kid Counter Strike Addict and his Kill count.

LOL, I play Counter Strike so don’t get me wrong, and I am not saying that it has anything to do with complete sentences but its about useful content filled posts. Hey and I think any post that are funny could be a single vowel if it makes me laugh and there’s some good ones in the forum. Honestly 99.99 % of our Forum members are part of a cohesive group of common interests. But that one guy, I mean 00.01 %.

I heard of people that like to hear themselves talk, but I got to add a new category. People that like to see them selves talk. :D , I guess the internet gives way to new personality types. What I want to get to is can we set up a peer report, cause I think that a little peer pressure could cure it right away. I am wondering , Hey am I the only one, I am new to this forum stuff. Any thoughts on this? I mean I know you have a way to report posts, I mean what to report?

Sorry, I start laughing sometimes at the posts, here is an example this and the names and the Thread may have been changed to protect the innocent . ;)

Thread PPC , Help info on setting up Fedora Core 4 Test 2 on a Mac

Post : good suggestion

Post : “Uh, FC4 can go on a Mac”

Right there your brain grinds to a halt “Wa?”

Hey I am interested in hearing people’s thoughts on this. Hey maybe I am the onlyone, and If I am I am sorry
Sincerely sfabkk

This forum use to use a the reputation system like in other forums. There was a incedent where someone got knocked (repuation dropped severly) and got pissed. There was literally a weeks worth of babbling back and forth. So the Admin of the site decided to nip it in the butt and disable this feature. You have 2 choices. 1. ignore the posts that you find *unwilling* or 2. send a private message to the user. keep in mind though that option 2 can lead to flaming, bickering, cat fighting, nuclear missles launched. etc.etc.etc. (in that order too) Just like in a mailing list, the Delete button is your friend, here you can skip over it or not read the post at all.

Wish there was a spelling button to check the spelling .... Hey Ug any chances of that?

Fedora Jim,
Thanks for answering, I just want to say, I certainly don’t want to flame and because even a “Babbler”: (Definition a person who’s post per day average for a year is above 13”.) They have constructive things to say. Even though it may be a 1 in 10 average compared to their posts. The reason I posted it here is because I did not want to way to start a flame war cause I feel this site is fantastic and helpful. I mean if there no ranking (Which is cool with me) then maybe we should disable post counters. I don’t mean every body’s but implement a quality not quantity measure. Such as a warning if your post average goes over 10 a DAY for a week. :D (Send out a warning) This could instill the idea that frivolous posting serves no use.
Hey to quote a wise man:

I am not young enough to know everything.

Oh and my ignore button works great already, Thanks
Sincerely
