FC4 users, please test the latest kernel from here, it will change often. These kernels are newer than rawhide. We are VERY close to FC4 final freeze, and it would be really bad if the FC4 installer didn't work on your hardware. Test test test!

Installed kernel-2.6.11-1.1341_FC4xen0 package using rpm install
Installed kernel-2.6.11-1.1341_FC4xenU package.

The installer removed my previous 1.1286 and 1.1315 xen0 and xenU packages from the boot directory and deleted them in my grub.conf, is this what suppose to happen??

I am faced now with a broken xenU config file however by changing the config file to the new xenU kernel it worked ok.

Noticed also that the TLS warning has been removed, has this been fixed?

Yes the TLS warning was misleading and wrong for FC4.

Finalzone where did you get that bootchart program?

I got if from Bootchart website (http://www.bootchart.org/). I rebuilt the package from source rpms after I installed java packages from FC4T3 CDs. Only dependancy that was missing was jakarta-common-cli which was absent from the development repository, I downloaded the file from jakarta website (http://www.jpackage.org/) to fix the issue. I have tested with i686 set to see it they will be performance change from bootchart.

wtogami

jarifed, did you use rpm -Uvh or -ivh? Always use -ivh when manually installing kernels, because -Uvh will remove older vesrions of kernels which is never desired.

I let the installer package do the install so the defauilt is probably Uvh.
I will install later on the day the Kernel 2.6.11-1.1341 with rpm -ivh and in the future if needede normally I use yum update.

I used yum but it wouldn't connect to the repo. 404 and closed and such.

It seems that the re-compile of oo .104+ is in the critcal path.

oo , gcc, next kernal, gome 210, then jump to kenal 1352 (which would allow XEN testing)

SUN Java? Anyone?

Update: I run the kernel 2.6.11-1.1352. According to bootchart:
- It seems usb-agent ran 100% CPU during 10-15 seconds and 20-25 seconds. I am not sure if it is a normal process. No major issue otherwise.
- I also tested the kernel with the rebuilt kernel-module-nvidia from Livna on my system. No major issue either.
- Compared to the previous kernel, no major regressions.

Wtogami, is there any chance to have bootchart included in Fedora Core 4? It may be too late but possibly on release 5.

thanks, :)
what do you mean by installed using the i rpm?
what rpm, from where?
I only get the development table scraps. ;)

When I install the base, in the chrooted system, and have to turn off, choke, choke, SELinux, does that mean:
1. I should do this work outside X in telint 3?
2. Only the chrooted system will be being updated so the SELinux will have (no, minimal, unknown) activity to unsysnc the attributes. Do I need to relabel after each install of a chrooted system?
3. Is the sda in the img file valid or does that need to be hda for ATA systems?
Is 1 GB really big enough and can that go in the lvm root?
4. How long does it take to install base? (20 min, 40 min, 3 hours?)
5. What your CPU increase on these vhd use?

model name : Intel(R) XEON(TM) CPU 2.00GHz

I have done the updates from this link

Hey thanks for clearing that up, jarified. :)
I'm on 1353 and I get the fastest, cleanest boot so far, with the exception of my auto formatting flat screen. (the 4th workgroup is off the screen)

It is also noticably faster in the apps.

I downloaded xen0, xenu, and devl o and u But not sure what to do with them yet.

Thanks again.

kernel-xen0-2.6.11-1.1355_FC4.i686.rpm
kernel-xenU-2.6.11-1.1355_FC4.i686.rpm

what is this xen thing?

* the internet connection vanishes

the dhcp selected during installation is seen converted to manual selection of ip and other things.
reconfiguring with systemtools works only for that session

for connecting we have to add route and gw manually after bootup completes

*i updated kernel devel also

now that i dont see uninstall of tjis update i am reinstalling fc4 test3

the rpm package manager says the up2date is old version but does not update

except for kernel update up2 date shows 0kb for all other headers

unlike fc3 the installer and partitioner work fine without a glitch

then howcome yum update goeson on downloading updates while up2date keeps quite after kernel update

the system is more unstable after updating the kernel.

all kde files seems damaged during download 234 disc have errors when reading kde related files.

hope to get fc4 release without the kernel problems

otherwise test3 is much better than test2 in my experience

remove microphone and see if the unwanted sound vanishes

it may help

in my p3 810e mother board i did not see any such audio problems

of course mp3 files dont play either with xmms or with rythm box

My system clock runs twice as fast as it should on an x86-64 system. The only way to prevent this is to turn off APIC (with the noapic kernel parameter). Bugzilla ID # 159081 (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=159081). This problem exists on the 1366 kernel, though it seems to have been around for a while before that.

SlowJet

On Kernal 1353 to kernal 1365 while downloading the kernal rpm for 1366 the whole net whent crazy.
The next day I got it straight, and install 1365.

In the process of getting the net working I had to re-enter my host (ip, name, alias)
I typed the alias as localhost

This became a big problem and I figured it out yesterday by the logs and senmail messages.
The alias s/b localhost.localdomain

The simple ommission cause the dhcp to think too long, and then senmail would hang up with messages in the log (note the log viewer program was deleted from FC4 so greping is a new hobbie) showed send mail could not recognise the host and was trying all sorts of tricks to figure things out, even iissing commands and queries (which I was impressed with) agast the dhcp server, the out side port 67, and conf files.

After about 4 minutes he would start up.

So if you get hung up at startup, check your messages in the logs and you may see why.

SJ

I have a bug filed about windows smb shares (icon on the FC desktop) when doubled clicked the mose goes busy, a blank window opens and the share hangs. A force close from the x control, results in the FC users /home dir poping up.

This went away in soon after I reported the bug, but is now back with 1366.

Other problems, music player. Trying to get a radio station. It bombed and said to tell the coders and that it must be restarted.

DHCP lease time is low. My DHCP sever from my proxy gives windows machines 4 days.
It gives FC 40 hours, when refreshed I think the FC net connection goes to sleep.

UP2DATE still hangs, had to use yum for Kernal 1366 set.

Just a note that I still have the problem with the double-time clock on AMD64 unless noapic is used (see bug #159081 at https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=159081). No updated code to test, although I suppose even with the legal delay it will be in an errata for FC4 at this point.

The development disto came back from the dead.
I got 25 updates last night. Well, into FC5 items.
Amazzinfly OO0-104-2 is still working.

Anyway, I was trying to install all the parts for nvidia 7674 driver set from Atrpms.
The libs went in, what I thoht was the helpers went in,
but the driver, and the kernelmoudule keep says the helper doesn't exits or the module doesn't exit.
I tried sh in telinit 3 and rpm, but it says can't execute a bianary file. lol

So I downloaded all 4 rpm and tried an sh in telinit 3 and got the same message.

What subtile steps am I missing? I think I'm so close as the all the stuff seems to be in place except the /extensions/nvida foler (this must be the helper files?
