You can get a package
xmms-mp3
which will add back the mp3 capability so cruelly taken from the stock Fedora xmms.
http://rpm.pbone.net/index.php3?stat=3&search=xmms-mp3&srodzaj=3&dist[]=41

It is dangerous to install RPMS that are not made for Fedora.
Although it won't give you an error, some will give you some kind of crazy dependency,
my fav is one I got while installing a SuSE rpm in fedora:
dependency: sh required
Othere may work, but the worst are those that may damage your system by installing in the wrong place.
There are many rpms avaliable for each Fedora, and if you have a broadband connection, try using yum.
PS: You should have just waited a few weeks. The magazine Linux For You would have given out a copy of FC4 final. Or at least waited till the FC4 came out. Or do you also have to start paying per Mb you download after June 15? :)
EDIT: good RPMS at this site: www.pbone.net

tejas,It is dangerous to install RPMS that are not made for FedoraSome packages may not be for fedora but some apps are linux oriented and targeted to all linux distros. Some may work some may not and I dont see a problem with some of the apps being mentioned.

No, not that, without the dependencies, it will not let you install the programs at all
My warning were for those programs that do install. Some of them will share a common file with another program. Replacing a file meant for use with fedora with another file that is for, say debian, will make you system un-optimised, and can even break your working programs.
Try this [something I've done]
Copy an arbitrary .so file into the Firefox/plugins folder.
Firefox will no longer load.
this is a pretty good example of what could happen. Although you didn't edit any of firefox's files, you still trashed it.
Oh, and I have BSNL broadband at 256kB/s. They are giving unlimited usage till June 28th or So, and then I get 1GB/month and re 1 for Mb after

now i get the idea of the scare the existing working applications fail due to newly installed dependencies or thaeir dependencies
mmmm i hope we can uninstall the newky installed ones and their dependencies
1gb download is nothing for us in first few days only it will be finished

I know, BSNL si trying to rob us off. But they give fairly good speeds.
btw, if you already installed a program, and It works, then leave it. There are a few programs which are thea same across all distros. If it works, don't fix it

i am going to install fc4test3 over fc4test2 and try with new programs
let me see if fc4 test3 has something new and if up2date is fixed
what is it updating to?
the aimed fc4 or the broken packages of fc4tests?
could u give exact instructions to install fc3 i want it for the livecd basilisk
the installer gives head geometry verification errors and does not install
i did not like the packages offered by bsnl
the zeenet gives this 128 kbps gives 12 18 kbytes download speed lamost round the clock
it costs me 1101 per month including my svcables franchisee
bsnl for 256 kbps 1500?
i like to get plan3 but i cant afford 3000 pm
so for the present this connection woksout ok
see u again after i finish this download in an hr or two
i will installfc4test3 and the xmms first with mp3 support and see
