Standalone Engage specific information:
The standalone Engage should work in almost any windowmanager, except E17.

I installed Engage and got it working following Jim's guide. It was a bit of a nightmare. It's also pretty buggy and making the eapp files is something I won't even try. It runs quite quickly however.
jim
2005-05-19, 04:43 PM CDT
Building the eapp files is really simple if you don't want to , I host them i have about 100 different eapp file so pick your poison.
I have Ubuntu installed on my notebook.
I had to compile and build the WHOLE E17 framework from scratch. Talk about a nightmare
Be glad that Fedoera Core users can yum install engage and everything esle.

How do I get engage? What site do I go to? I am running fc4, so I think that I would need the source tarballs? Please do not move this post as it is relevant to this thread?
Thanks for the help....

The latest build from the CVS in which Didier built engage from has a problem. When the CVS is updated, didier said he will build a new set of rpms. take a peek at his site
http://sps.nus.edu.sg/~didierbe/fedora/3/en/i386/RPMS.e17/ and make sure the rpms are dated AFTER 5-29-2005 within the name of the rpm. I had already chatteed with him about this so it should only be a few days before everything is fixed !
coxis
2005-06-03, 08:24 AM CDT
Ok i will be waiting for it.

I just tried the latest rpms and still the same problem I emailed didier about thios along with a strace. So hopefully someone can get to the bottom of this.. I don't use panels in gnome So off to E as intended
If you installed Enlightenment ( which i think you need to) in order to have engage.
try switchdesk enlightenment
once enlightenment opens open a terminal window and enter this
enlightenment_remote -module-load engage
It should use the .order file you have.
jim
2005-06-05, 08:42 AM CDT
Here is the fix
rpms dated 20050603 require the following rpms installed
esmart-devel, imlib2-devel, edje-devel, ecore-devel, evas-devel
ewl-devel, enlightenment-devel, embryo-devel, emotion-devel
So a simple
sudo yum --enablerepo=Didier -y install esmart-devel imlib2-devel edje-devel ecore-devel evas-devel ewl-devel embryo-devel emotion-devel enlightenment-devel
should get everything for you
jim
2005-06-05, 11:39 AM CDT
See the tutorial now I updated it to reflect the changes. Ther is also a text file link to compare the rpms you have installed against the ones I have installed
coxis
2005-06-05, 11:43 AM CDT
Ok i take a look at toturial
I don't know what is new in toturial.
I just do the yum stuff from 28post.
coxis
2005-06-05, 11:59 AM CDT
Ok it works :
I've just add :
yum --enablerepo=Didier -y install esmart-devel imlib2-devel edje-devel ecore-devel evas-devel ewl-devel embryo-devel emotion-devel enlightenment-devel
Thanx very much :)

I finally got Engage up and running and I am thrilled so far. I wanted to know how do I make icons for new programs? Like DVD Shrink that I run through Wine; how would I get an icon for that in Engage?

You just installed Enlightenment. It's another window manager, like Gnome or KDE. You can log into it by changing you 'Session' from the GDM Login screen or by typing 'switchdesk enlightenment' in a terminal window.
