View Full Version : Installing FC4T3 damaged my partition table

Hi.

During the installation I got more or less the following message. (I'm sorry, but I paniced and clicked it away - silly me!)
Invalid partition table on /dev/hda - wrong signature 0
Invalid partition table on /tmp/hda - wrong signature 0

I didn't care before, because FC booted just fine and because everything looked really pretty I didn't notice at first. :D
But when I wanted to restore my backed up data from /dev/hda7 to /dev/hda6, where I installed FC4T3, I realized, that there is no /dev/hda7 any more.

Now I'm  , because there is about one week of really good work on that partition, including my current thesis that is due soon.

Here are some further command outputs:
fdisk -l /dev/hda
omitting empty partition (7)

The above - by the way - is about the German equivalent to what I saw during the installation.

I hope somebody can tell me how to get to my data.

Best regards,

DJ

Additional information:
I previously used Debian with this configuration:
/dev/hda1 swap
/dev/hda5 /boot
/dev/hda6 /
/dev/hda7 /home

It was running fine, besides the fact, that I did not get the kernel compiled the way I wanted. So I thought, I'd give FC a try.

Solved it. More or less.

I managed to regain my data by using the free (free beer) data recovery software R-Linux (http://www.r-tt.com/). It runs on Windows  , but hey, it got my data back!

Now I have a backup and can set things up properly again.

Cheers,

DJ
