I cannot figure out what is going on. I have a usb mouse, that worked just
fine. I tried a beta kernel, test3 I think, had problems and went back to
2.4-20 and ever since then it will
"hop" to (usually) the lower right corner.

It is so odd. Especially when i use vmware, or winex.
I tried adding com adapter, other mouse. the /etc/XFree86.config edit in
imp/2 or whatever it was. Still cannot figure out what is going on.
Anyone else having this problem?

Have you tried a different mouse? Could be a hardware problem.

you tried killing gpm service.. I used to have that problem playing
quakeIII ... mouse would start jumping around.. killed the service
and it worked like a champ.

I just experienced this today:

My Dell Latitude has been working smoothly with RH9 for some time. Today
my touchpad started this jumping-to-lower-left-corner behaviour. Sometimes
I have has my PS/2 MS Intellimouse attached, now it was detached. I did
not have gpm running.

I ran gpm, just to see if it works. Yes, it worked flawlessly. I tried
various things like chnginging runlevels and finally rebooting.
(It is always humiliating when you have to do that on Linux...;-) Nothing
changed.

Then I plugged in my mouse, and suddenly everything works just fine, both
the touchpad and the mouse. Then I remove the mouse, and the touchpad
still works fine, like just right now!

Well, if I was a Red Hat engineer, I would be interested...
