Looking to setup my box to stream mp3s so I have something to listen to
besides the 24/7 Elton John station coming over the cubicle wall every
day...

I took a look at shoutcast, but it doesn't seem to love me very much. Is
there anything the community prefers in general, or should I continue to
muck around with shoutcast until it shows me the money?

Yeah, basically! Check freshmeat for alternatives. Play wiv 'em.

My personal = icecast.

If you have the mp3 plugin for XMMS shoutcast works beautiful! Listen
all the time when online.

Right now I'm loving gnump3d... Got it up and running in a matter of
minutes, but will check out some others as well I'm sure. Thanks

RealNetworks provides free both RealProducer and RealServer. They should
accomplish what you want, but be prepared to spend some quality time with
the documentation. I am using these aps for video streaming, but they also
lend themselves to audio streaming too. You can see them here:
