http://jw.dyndns.org/initng/

the link above is for Initng, the creater says it is the next generation version of init (hence the ng), in his test it cut boot time in half, but that is really pointless to me if i cannot see it happen in my most favorite of distros Fedora. hopefully in FC4

just think about it with this and then the whole loading the GDM earlier in the boot process that is currently in the works for FC4 we could see a real boot up time gain in FC4, which lets be honest, is FC3 biggest flaw, it a really long time, even on my athlon64

anyway does anyone know how i can get this to the devs or any reason why this should not be part of FC4, or seeing as it is early in development, maybe just make it an option for the more adventures... seeing as it is beyond me to write the config file myself

thanks

I believe FC4 test 2 already boots up faster, going to install it next week on a testing computer at school, so then I'll know.
But I agree, that would be really cool :D Maybe going to try this, when I've got my 5.1 soundcard playing 5.1 instead of 2.0

Probably too late for FC4, especially with something as significant as changing init.

However, that pretty graph was from a tool originally for Fedora (http://www.bootchart.org). Lessons learned from that will go into Fedora Core 4, and yes it will be faster.
