View Full Version : How to custom rescue disk
2nd May 2005, 04:20 PM
I've been trying to add a new vmlinuz and initrd.img to isolinux on the FC3 rescue disk. The new cd boots and loads vmlinuz and initrd.img but panics when
it starts to mount the file systems. I've found several references on the net about how to customize the packages on a boot disk but not how to replace the
boot kernel. Please direct me if this is not the correct list for this.

Copy out the last stuff printed before the panic... without that, who knows.

The kernel is from kernel.org, 188.8.131.52
I can boot and run this kernel just fine.
I downloaded FC3-i386-disc1.iso from mirrors.kernel.org, mounted and copied the contenets to a tmp dir, replaced vmlinuz and initrd.img with my new kernel an ramdisk, ran "mkisofs -R -J -T -v -no-emul-boot -boot-load-size 4 -boot-info-table -V "Fedora Core 3 Rescue" -b isolinux/isolinux.bin -c isolinux/boot.cat -o my_fc3_rescue.iso my_fc3_rescue/", and burned cd.
I boot the cd it reports
... checks hardware
... loads modules
Creating root device
umount /sys failed: 16
Mounting root filesystem
mount: error 6 mounting ext3
mount: error 2 mounting none
Switching to new root
switchroot: mount failed: 22
umount /initrd/dev failed: 2
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
