I am running RH 9.0 and would like to know if someone can tell me how to set
the date and time from a comamnd line. Thanks for your help.

Look at the man page for the "date" command. Both date and time are covered
there.

I use ntpdate and a simple cron job to keep the time as closely synchronized
to a stratum 2 time server as possible:

23 * * * * ( /usr/sbin/ntpdate 128.105.39.11; /usr/sbin/hwclock --systohc )
