I would ike to be able to capture the animation that is running on my entire desktop - I have learned how to use a screensaver as an animated desktop wallpaper. Or create a movie of the steps to perform in order to arrive at a particular goal.

I know there exists apps that can capture the desktop and create an animated movie of it, but I don't know the name of the app(s).

Does anyone know of an app, or apps, which can do this?

OMG it's a Scottish d00d posting messages!! Everyone run, and hide your bagpipes, QUICK!!

Just so it's on the forum for others to see as well, there is a program out there that captures your desktop in mpeg format I believe it is called 'wink'. It's mainly used for doing animated how-to's and the such, so I'm sure it could be used for capturing the screensaver running as your desktop. So check it out and post your image of glmatrix running behind all your apps. LOL Was that a lucky guess :P

Hmm.. maybe I should have been searching for something other than "wink" at http://www.google.com/linux. I guess the "linux" part of google isn't always the best.

Thanks, d00d!

Eewww, wink uses flash. Lol, deleting...

Does anyone know of an app that can do this which doesn't use flash? I don't even have flash installed.. neither do the people I'd be sending the animations to.

see wink in action here

You can get wink from here
http://freeware4u.com/modules/mydownloads/singlefile.php?lid=235
Click the wink for linux
save it and run the installer.sh like this in the terminal
./installer.sh
Yes it requires flash for your browser to play back or if you use windows you can save it as a .exe Most windows people have flash installed
& installing flash for linux is a breeze

Is there a way to view wink animations that doesn't require a web browser or writing a web page (I don't know any Windows users)? There has to be a way to do the capture to an .mpeg, .avi or animated .gif. I don't use flash and don't know any Windows users. I was hoping to find something that I could use to show off the animated desktop background on my machine. If I use wink, I have to install flash (don't want to do that), find a way to upload the webpage to this forum (don't think it's possible), get the people whom I know to install flash (this won't be easy), etc. It just doesn't seem like this is going to work. That is why I wanted an app that would capture to .mpeg, .avi or to animated .gif.
