Hi,

I just installed FC4 Test 2 last night.

After I can login I followed instruction in
http://www.fedorafaq.org/custom_nvidia.html
to install NVidia driver.

I tried to use the latest driver, 7174.

After the installation, I can see nvidia logo flashing during bootup. But before it shows the Gnome GDM login, the screen when haywire like when you set wrong horizontal/vertical frequency for your monitor.

FYI, if I use nv driver (linux nvidia driver), everything is alright. My monitor is Compaq V1000 which is detected correctly and can work perfectly with nv driver at 1600x1200.

I use NVIDIA GF MX 440, PIV 2.4 GHz, 1 Gbytes RAM.

I tried to install previous Nvidia driver 6629. But it cannot be installed, the installation complained about something and did not proceed.

How is your experience in FC4 Test 1?

Please help.......

Thanks

Jerry

What specifically was the error you received? I also have an Nvidia card and had some difficulties. The first time I installed installation went smoothly. I had to rebuild my system and while attempting to install Nvidia driver the second time I got an error about gcc not being in my path.

Which wasn't true. Anyways I updated my system using yum and attempted to install the Nvidia drivers again for the third, this time successful.

you have the same video card as me and you can go to 1600x1200 on nv without problems? odd..
Anyway, the problem is that the RHGB boot process doesn't always seem to load the drivers right away because the nvidia drivers install a daemon that monitors the nvidia driver (but, as you should know, the boot process begins before the daemons start up). I hacked the startup scripts to allow loading the driver, but then if you update your startup scripts it gets overwritten.

I editted /etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit and looked for anything related to rhgb and added a 'modprobe nvidia' in front of it.
but, yeh, be careful and use at your own risk.

I installed FC4 yesterday, and had the exact same problem with my computer (nvidia GeForce2 GO) and again, only when trying the accelerated driver from nvidia version. I used 1.0-7664 (I installed it using the run-script)
When X starts I get this error
Failed to initialize GLX extension (NVIDIA X driver not found).
I do not run rhgb, and the nv (no acceleration) driver works fine (a bit slow...)
