I am planning on buying a new PC with the following specs
-AMD Athlon 64 3000 (s745)
-DFi UT250Gb
-1Gb DDR400
-Maxtor 120Gb S-ATA HDD
-Audigy 2 ZS
-Pioneer DVR-108
-GeForce 6800GT or ATI X800 Pro
I have a few questions-
1. Will the Fedora Core 3 Installation have any trouble finding the hardware?
2. I have heard that nVidia is much better for Linux as they have greater driver support. Is this true? (If yes then I will get the 6800GT).

I don't think you should have too much trouble with those goodies. I'm not an expert, though, but I installed FC3 on my 64-bit test server at work without too much trouble, and I'm a pretty big newbie to FC.
And yes, by the gods, yes, get the nVidia. My ATI card in my laptop was hell to install under Slackware, and not much less trouble with FC3. The nVidia card I have on my desktop, tho, was a breeze.

Thanks for the quick reply. I too am a newbie to Linux and I have already purchased some parts (HDD, DVD-ROM, MotherBoard) so I wanted to make sure I could install easily. Can't believe I never made the transition earlier. So much power and control...... Muahahaha. :P

I'm the same way, except that given my job and gaming, I had to stay with Windows. Then I got a computer of my own for work (no more using my personal laptop!), and my buddy hooked me up with Transgaming...now I'm here to stay!

What is Transgaming? The ONLY reason I'm keeping Windows XP on my other HDD is for games. Please give me a way to ditch it for good! *EDIT* Never mind. I found out what Transgaming is. *EDIT*

Transgaming is great. I'm not sure I completely agree with their monthly charges, though. They do give free access to the CVS, but you don't get any support whatsoever. But in my experience thus far, the CVS releases have been a bit more reliable than the published ones.
Now that I've gotten cedega (TG's name of the latest build) working properly, I ditched my Windows partition altogether. Granted, TG will always be a few steps/months behind the Windows gaming developments, but I don't really care -- I never keep up with games much, anyway.
Have fun, and good luck!
