After much research, I became convinced that the HP Photosmart 8450 was supported in Linux and was able to print out high quality photos, so I bought one.
Now, under Windows XP the prints I get are beautifull, but I cannot get the printer to work the way it was designed to work with Fedora linux. At Linuxprinting.org, I learned that both hpijs-1.7.1 and hplip-0.8.8 included the ppd files necessary for the machine, and that the recommended interface was hplip-0.8.8.
Fedora does not have a binary built for hplip, period. So I tried the hpijs-1.7.1.3, or whatever the upgraded binary was called. What I found was disturbing. This binary was not an upgrade. The ppd files for the 8450 have been removed. So now I have $225.00 boat anchor and no boat.
Can anyone provide me with some information as to how I might get this thing to work the way it was designed to?
