I am running Fedora Core 2, and I do not know how to get the system to work with my soundblaster card. It can see it but can not play the sound, I have already made sure the sound was turned up, I had it up all the way(both speakers and the volume control off the desktop. So how do I get my Soundcard config to work with my sound card and play sounds, music, etc.?

It turns out that the sound card is called an Integrated AC97 inside my manual. But soundblaster was what I used for software when XP was on my computer. The link that was posted by raghavendra turned out to not work as far as my computer is concerned. If there is an update to fix this problem or a link that works please post it. My soundcard is detected as
Vendor: Intel Corp.
Model: 82801DB (ICH4) AC'97 Audio Controller
Module: snd-intel8x0
When I test the sound I don't hear anything, with all sound turned up. And when it asks is I heard it I answer no and it says the autodetection fails. If you need more info, tell me what you need and I'll post it.

I have the same type of sound system. This worked for me:
As root, I edited my /etc/hotplug/blacklist and added ohci1394 to the list. It worked because of an IRQ conflict with my iee1394, ohci1394 and snd_intel8x0 drivers. You can see if you have any IRQ conflicts by running dmesg|grep IRQ (IRQ in caps for an abbreviated output list).

Unfortunatly this did not work. Here's what the dmesg|grep IRQ said:
ACPI: IRQ9 SCI: Level Trigger.
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKA] (IRQs *3 4 5 6 7 9 10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKB] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 *11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 *11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKD] (IRQs 3 4 *5 6 7 9 10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKE] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKF] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNK0] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNK1] (IRQs 3 4 5 6 7 *9 10 11 12 14 15)
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKA] enabled at IRQ 3
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKD] enabled at IRQ 5
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKC] enabled at IRQ 11
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNK1] enabled at IRQ 9
ACPI: PCI Interrupt Link [LNKB] enabled at IRQ 11
PCI: Using ACPI for IRQ routing
Serial: 8250/16550 driver $Revision: 1.90 $ 8 ports, IRQ sharing enabled
Then this is the /etc/hotplug/blacklist:
#
# Listing a module here prevents the hotplug scripts from loading it.
# Usually that'd be so that some other driver will bind it instead,
# no matter which driver happens to get probed first. Sometimes user
# mode tools can also control driver binding.
#
# Syntax: driver name alone (without any spaces) on a line. Other
# lines are ignored.
#
ohci1394
# uhci ... usb-uhci handles the same pci class
usb-uhci
# usbcore ... module is loaded implicitly, ignore it otherwise
usbcore
# tulip ... de4x5, xircom_tulip_cb, dmfe (...) handle same devices
de4x5
# At least 2.4.3 and later xircom_tulip doesn't have that conflict
# xircom_tulip_cb
dmfe
#evbug is a debug tool and should be loaded explicitly
evbug
SOOOO... that is that. Again, the sound card still does not work.

Have you tried turning acpi off in your etc/grub.conf link? Like this example from my grub.conf:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.10-1.770_FC3 ro root=LABEL=/ rhgb quiet acpi=off

What if there is absolutly nothing inside grub.conf?

I forgot to mention that you need to be root (su) to edit grub.conf....Sorry.

But you should still be able to see what is inside the file nonetheless. Plus I was looking as root.

Do you have onboard sound? I assume that you installed a sound card. If so, you need to turn it off in the BIOS

I was able to fix the problem with the sound card by turning up the PCM2, no clue what that is but I was able to find the solution at http://s-computers.dyndns.org:8000/howto/linuxsound.php?
