My internal CDRW drive will not mount CDs or blank CDRs in KDE, although it shows up in k3b. When I create a project in k3b and click "burn," nothing happens, the drive does not spin or light up. This drive works well in XP so I know it's not hardware.
I'm running FC3 and and KDE 3.4.

If ya haven't got it working yet--try ejecting any disks in it
then right click and delete the icon on your desktop (hopefully KDE desktop as that's what I am using)
then right click empty area of desktop and select "new device" and pick new cd writer/or cd/dvd writer (as appropriate)
then name it if you want--then click the device tab and set it to /dev/hdc (mine is hdc--if you have 2 hardrives it could be hdd)
click ok
put a cd in it--give the light time to blink on and off couple times and then right click the icon and "mount"--
you should be able to read it--and K3B to write to it.

Are you trying to burn mp3's? if so you need the k3b-mp3 plugin. yum install k3b-mp3

Im haveing the same issue only I get
This each time I start up K3B
-----------------------------------
cdrecord does not run with root privileges
It is highly recommended to configure cdrecord to run with root privileges. Only then cdrecord runs with high priority which increases the overall stability of the burning process. Apart from that it allows changing the size of the used burning buffer. A lot of user problems could be solved this way. This is also true when using SuSE's resmgr.
Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem.
cdrdao does not run with root privileges

OK, great- this got cd's to mount for read-only. But when I put in a blank cd-r, I get this:
/dev/hdd: Invalid argument
mount: block device /dev/hdd is write-protected, mounting read-only
/dev/hdd: Invalid argument
mount: /dev/hdd: can't read superblock
Please check that the disk is entered correctly
And when I try to use k3b to burn an audio CD from k3b I get "Error decoding audio tracks."

Yup, I have this installed.
