Hi guys,
I have a D-link router, and it came with a LPT port on it so you could print from anywhere on the network through a ethernet connnection. The disc has no linux drivers on it, so is there an easy way to set up the printer or is it kinda useless. I have to think theres a way, but its beyond me how to do it. I kinda know its a network problem, but i figured id post it here anyway. Also, i have a usb sidewinder 2 joystick from the company in washington state that shall not be named, and sorta recognizes it. It recognizes that its there, but not completely. It says, "sure its there, but i dont know what to do with it" kinda thing. Is there a set of drivers i need to install or a rpm? Thanks for the help.

What model of D-Link router? I had a DI-704P that had a print server.
You configured it through a web interface. Plug in in to the network, point a browser at http://192.168.0.1, and configure it. Easy.
I recommend checking out D-Link online support (http://support.dlink.com/). Select your product and check out the FAQs, especially those about printing. I'm not sure if you can set it up under Linux. I believe with the graphical tool (Main Menu > System Settings > Printing) you can create a Networked UNIX (LPD) printer with Server set to the IP number of the router (probably 192.168.0.1) and Queue lp. (Lowercase LP)
What model of printer?

What's sorta :-)? Have you tried running jstest?
==> $ jstest --event /dev/js-whatever.
I have a PrecisionPro USB, and I had to change the premissions to get it to work in my user account. Also you may need to run jscal.

Jman, i have the same router u do, the 704p. When i log into the router, there is no option to set up the printer. I had to install software that came with the router on a cd for it to work in windows, but alas no linux drivers could be found. Ill try to config it like u said. Its an old apple laserjet, but it emulates a HP laserjet 3 or 3d or 4. Depends on what the os likes best, i think i finally ended up with the 3 on my xp machine, but the 3d on the 98 machine. Screwy. Anyway, ill try that.
My joystick is a precision 2 USB, but i havent tried running jstest. Ill try it, but first i need a bigger hdd to install fedora on. Im runnin out of space, so hopefully ill get it runnin again in a week or so. Thanks for the help.

If it makes you feel any better: I have a linksys PSUS4 printserver/switch and without any linux drivers or guarantees by Linksys as to its usage in Linux I simply added it in the print config as a LPD printer and used the spool that was used by cups (can't remember the name something like /var/spool and it works like a charm.

Newbie here.
I have the PSUS4 unit as well, but I haven't been able to figure out how to add it. Do you have a step-by-step procedure for this?
Feel free to move this if it's in the wrong forum.
