anybody got a good tutorial on how to configure mount permissions for groups so they can access the CDROM - I cant seem to play music cds while im a user? I heard of a audio group, but is this so?

thanks :)

I believe the 'wheel' group is the one you're looking for.

My users are member of both the 'users', 'floppy', 'disk' and 'wheel' groups. Can mount anything.

jtang613 -

My thanks. Of the many hacks & other advice Ive read this is the solution that worked for me. I had issue after replacing failed cdrom drive with new CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive. Adding my users to the disk group & user group fixed it. No need to chmod anything in /dev/dev or fiddle with permissions in /etc/security/console.perms. Upon reboot, I was in business playing cdrom music as an oridinary user.

simplist thing would have been to ensure 'user' or 'users' was added in the mount options of fstab for the cdrom.
