I have a dual monitor setup on windows. I am trying to set up the same thing on Fedora 3. I believe I did everything right. However, I am still pretty new on the learning curve with Fedora and I got this message when I finished entering the information for changing the display from one to two. Need to log out and restart Xserver for the changes to take effect. Configuration was written to etc/x11/xorg.conf So how do I restart the Xserver. I logged out and restarted the computer but that had no effect. Can anyone please tell me what I am missing.

Thanks
Frank

Well, you didn't have to reboot - just logging out usually does the trick. You could have also used CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE to restart X.

As far as your specific dual-display problem, the only thing I can say is that your configuration changes didn't work and you'll need to review your steps, as well as checking the /var/log/Xorg*.log file.

Thanks, for the information. Will double check procedure. The other monitor is an HP MX50. The closest Fedora recognized was a Pavilion M50. I kind of think that might be part of the problem.

Thanks

Ok, I have double checked everything I did. The HP monitor mx50 does not appear in the selection catagory for monitor choice. There are about 5 entries for an m50. I tried that and that does not work either. Is there any way I can get this monitor to be recognized?

Thanks

You can manually enter the specs into xorg.conf - not a lot of fun, but you could probably crib from some of the mode-lines from the other model. And, no, I don't know where they're stored... ;)
