Epson Stylus Color 777 printer won't print on Fedora Core 1

Hi,

I'm a n00b and I've just started using Linux, Fedora Core 1 to be specific, for a few days.
I have encountered a few problems with my onboard sound card and dvd drive and harddrive and what not, however, with the information on various online forum and some luck, I managed to make them work. Yet there is still one issue which I can't seem to find much solutions around: my printer isn't working at all.

IIt's an Epson Styluus Color 777. I have used the "Printing" tool that comes with Fedora, set it up as Locally-connected "/dev/lp0", with the Stylus Color 777 driver "gimp-print-ijs", however, when i tried to get it to print a test page, nothing happened at all. Also, nothing happened when I try to print from a program like OpenOffice.

It will be muchly appreciated If u will generously share ur expertise with me.

I bet kudzu hasn't detected the printer yet. :) Go to System Tools -> Hardware Browser and check if the printer is listed. If it isn't then that's your problem. Reboot with the printer turned on and kudzu should detect and configure it for you. Then once booted up go back to the printer tool and print another test page.

I had your exact problem and this fixed it for me; hopefully you too. :)

I checked the Hardware Browser and the printer wasn't listed. So I proceeded as u said by shutting down the computer, turning on the printer and boot up the computer while the printer is on. Sadly, that didn't solve my problem. Thx for ur input though. Any other ideas?

That's the problem. Your printer won't function until kudzu detects and configures it.

Is the kudsu service on? Check by going to System Settings -> Server Settings -> Services and makes sure kudzu is checked.

If kudzu is enabled then I would double-check the physical connection. BTW is it a parallel port or USB printer? Is the printer known to work on either another PC or another OS on the same PC (dual-boot)?

Your printer is supported in the foomatic database like mine, so it is known to work in Fedora.

Also, you may want to examine your /var/log/cups/error_log to get a clue what's happening.
