I have just got my Dell C400 notebook dual booting with XP which I am happy with. However, i am having problems getting Fedora to recognise it's modem.
Fedora version: 2.6.1-1.65
lspci gives me: Modem: 82801CA/CAM AC'97 Modem
I have been hunting around various sites for a driver/anwser but as yet have found nothing comprehensive - I have visited all initial links from Google but was wondering if anyone else out there could lend a hand !! :| :| ?
Many thanks c

I'm a dial up user too, but I went and got a proper modem, it wasn't that much of a cost and saved me a lot of hassle.
The best thing I can recommend to you is to go to the Linmodem Homepage (http://www.linmodems.org/) and foilow their instructions. Or spend £20 on a new modem.

I've just looked up your laptop on Linux On Laptops (http://www.linux-on-laptops.com/) and it seems that the PCTEL Modem drivers might work which you can find here (http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/pctel-linux/).

Hi,
I did try the pctel-0.9.7-9.tar.gz file but got a:
your kernel version is 2.6.1
this package supports only 2.4.x kernels
** compilation error
Any other thoughts, anyone??
Thanks

Use your 2.4 kernel which you get with FC1. You should still have this installed?

Hi,
I am fairly new to this, all I did was download the latest Fedora files. I would not know how to change or regress to another Core - so I need to start from scratch and reinstall here??
Many thanks.

Did you download Fedora Core 2 Test 1 by any strange chance? Fedora Core 2, is currently in beta, and is probably what you thought was the latest edition. This explains why you would have a 2.6.x kernel.
Rather than Fedora Core 1, which is the current edition and has the 2.4.x kernel.

That's right, I installed Core 2. I guess I either wait for a driver update or reinstall and use Core 1.
O Well!
Many thanks again
