I have a Dell Inspiron 5150 that I am having a heck of a time installing ANY linux distro on it. 3.2Ghz hyperthreading, 1 gig ram, 60 gig HD, Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 w/64 mb vid card.

I believe it is the video card "wiggin" out, as I can never get a graphical interface out of anything. (it is either a blue or red screen with gibberish). windows XP works fine, and 3D games work fine. I am currently having trouble even booting Fedora, as it ONLY goes into graphical mode. is there a way to NOT boot into graphical mode?

(I know very little about configuring linux... I am trying to learn)

when you get to the grub menu screen on boot up, press the letter "a". Then, delete the "rhgb" and press enter to boot w/o it.

Moved to Test release forum since, although in a laptop, it's a test release issue.

ROFL, I moved it from Installation to Laptop! I had pondered here, but in the end i flipped a coin. :p

Flippin a coin eh? lol Well, I feel any question that is pertinent to test releases should go here as the problems and fixes are most likely different from end releases.

well.. I had put mandrake 10.0 on after I couldn't get fedora to work.. but mandrake kinda sucks it seems... so I am going to go back to fedora...

after reading through the forums a bit.. it seems that, with the upgrader and such, you can almost get core 1 up to core 2 version levels.....

is it worth toughing out core 2?

Well, core2 isn't out yet. It's still in beta. Test2 should be out real soon now. See the schedule here:
