Hi, I just switched to fedora core 1 after a hugely frustrating round of windows crashes so I know precious little about linux. I have a 3COM gigabit LAN on my P4C800 deluxe mobo and I downloaded, compiled and installed the 3C984/2000 driver but my connection is slow(I'm on ADSL but I get something like dial-up) and some sites and stuff refuse to connect. In particular I cannot connect with up2date. Can I find another driver somewhere to fix this?
thanks in advance for the help

and some sites and stuff refuse to connect
So it works just not very well? Hmm.
The default up2date severs are fequently busy. Check out this FAQ (http://fedora.artoo.net/faq/#SlowUpdateServers) for how to change that.
As for the card, have you tried Main Menu > System Settings > Network ? The new device wizard has a 3Com 3c590/3c595/3c90x/3cx980 driver that looks promising.

Where did you get you driver from? Are you using an equivalent driver or an exact one?

I'm using the exact driver from the asus website. I tried the 3Com 3c590/3c595/3c90x/3cx980 driver but it didn't help. fortunately, I'm now up to date but I still can't access certain sites.
