Where in the world are you located? I'm just interested to know where the people on this forum are from.
I'm from a rural corner of England called Suffolk. Officially described as "rurally deprived", which means that we don't have broadband and have to survive on 56K.

Yes maybe I should.
I hate the constant clouds and/or sun.
I personally think if it's cloudy it should atleast make an attempt at raining.
normal rainfall for san diego is 9"
last year we got 3"
this year so far 1.5"
and the resivors are a going dry.
Ug

It's cold, it's wet, it's windy, the sun dosen't come out and it's dark.
What isn't to hate about it?
9 inches in a year? We can do that in way less than a month.

ug_the_caveman,
As much as I prefer summer and the QLD climate in general, right now at about 33C, I'd be more happy with the rainy coolness of your part of the world!
And on another topic, I really pity your lack of broadband...aghhh, I could never go back! And considering I haven't used dial-up in about 3 years, it's more a prehistoric memory -> do people still use that old hardware?:p

We also have a lot of American servicemen round here. With RAF Mildenhall and Lakenheath not so far away, Lakenheath had the Stealth Bombers which were used in Iraq. We would see and hear them leave the base, add 8 hours and turn on the news to see Baghdad being pummeled. It was weird, like we knew when things where gonna happen but only non specifically.

I live in Canada, which has the best mix of weather. I love having 4 distinct seasons, though summer can get kind a hot for me! Many Americans think we have 11 months of winter and one month of bad snowmobiling, but summer routinely exceeds 30 degrees Celsius in the Toronto area. Maybe the fact that we report temps in Celsius confuses them as 30 degrees Fahrenheit is pretty chilly!

Toronto, im farther north than that. Right on the 45th parallel. The four seasons thing is cool, but i dont think global warming has it alpena yet. This winter the averate high was about 0 F for about two months. What happened to global warming?
Celsius makes sense to me, but being raised with the farenheit system i need a little time to convert between the two and make the connection. Stupid government, cant finally make up their minds to switch. Isnt the US and like 2 other countries the only ones that use the English system anymore? That cracks me up, called the english system but the english dont even use it, what a wacky world we live in

Vancouver, Canada. Last winter, It snowed in the valley for one week which is very rare. At least, there is mountain not too far and a beach thus providing a diversity for different activities.
I used to live in Quebec City which has one of extreme weather compared to Toronto. FYI, Quebec City is the oldest european city in North America as the download really looks like a small French City.
I also use Celsius as measure and found that using imperial system is really a pain (remember Mars Orbiter probe crash due to the wrong measure).

Sea, no. Lake Huron (one of great lakes) is about a 10 min walk from my house. Pretty nice to ride your bike along in summer, get a nice 50km breeze blowing when its 90F out, feels good. Water never gets warmer than about 55 degrees F though. Stupid city keeps selling lake front property though, lets individuals buy it. Then the cement plant takes up the entire north half of the town's beach. Largest cement plant in North America i do belive, but still. The largest man made hole in the world is about 45 min north too, another interstering landmark. Im told you can see the hole from space. Oh well, i guess progress doesnt stop for anyone.

Yes, the weather is poo here as well (no spring or autumn, just summer or winter) -- and Illinois, being flat as a pancake, is an excruciatingly dull state to live in. True, but in Michigan we got lots of wierd citys. I live in Alpena, but we got Presque Isle (prounounced pres-k-eel), Sault Ste Marie (prounounced soo saint marie), and Pontiac, and Sterling Heights, and Tawas, Au Sable, Gaylord, Adrian (i always find that funny because thats my name), and then there's Iron Mountain, Livonia, Big Rapids and Grand Rapids, Muskegon, heck we got all kinds of wierd city names. KAlamazoo is just the tip of the iceberg. Its funny though, you can tell everyone who is from out of state because they always pronounce the city names wrong.

You got that right...I even have problems with some of the pronuciations...sometimes you use the spanish pronuciation ...and sometimes the
english...Refugio ...is long u and g=h...rey-few-he-o
what about Llano, Blanco...Texans pronounce them "lan-o" (not yawn-o) and "blank-o" (not blan-co)...many others... sometimes the correct pronouciation depends more on the residents mispronounciation than its actual lauguage or ethnic origins...

It was some war between two families (York and Tudor) called War of roses? Correct me if i'm wrong.
Anyway, there are Tudors in Croatia too, have you ever heard aboute football player Igor Tudor (plays for Juventus, Italy)
Ug
2004-06-08, 04:55 AM CDT
I'll correct you. ;) I've just spent the last two years intensively studying this period of English history.
There was an English civil war known as the War of the Roses, which was between the houses of York and Lancaster. During which 8 different monarchs took the throne, and 8 different monarchs died a bloody death! Henry Tudor was a pretender to the throne, who only had a distant connection to the throne (through his grandmother).
Henry Tudor defeated King Richard III on the 22nd August 1485, and became King of England as Henry VII. He then married Elizabeth of York (who was rightfully Queen) and united the two houses. The following dynasty was to be known as the Tudors.
Henry VII (1485 - 1509, In my opinion the best monarch we've ever had, he was a very shrewd man)
Henry VIII (1509 - 1547, the one who had seven wives, and liked to go to war in france)
Edward VI (1547 - 1553, a boy king who had two Lord Protectors who ruled for him, the earls of Somerset and Northumberland)
Mary I (1553 - 58, the catholic queen who sent 300 protestants to their deaths on fires, and whom married the king of Spain Phillip II)
Elizabeth I (1558 - 1603, a very famous queen who never married, and led the country in a war against Spain which saw the sinking of a great Spanish Armada which had come to invade in 1588)
When Elizabeth died she left the throne to James I, who was the Scottish King - which united Scotland, Wales and England. James I was the son of Margaret, who was Henry VII's daughter.
And incidently the Battle of Bosworth was the last time an English king lost a Battle over the succession of the crown.
Any questions? Just ask. ;)

My new home is Colton, NY ( I think it's short for "Cold Town") up by the Canadian border. If you think Chicago's going to be harsh, Sailor, come visit me when it's a brisk -20 F. Got to say though, that it would be hard to match the natural beauty and warmth of the people up here. After 60 years of living 'elsewhere', I'm finally home.

Here in QLD, our average temperature has been around 31C (don't know the F equiv..). It's safe to say it's been a scorching summer thus fair. And the humidity makes it twice as bad.
Similar weather in Canada, west of Toronto. Up to 35C and humid in summer and down to -20C in winter. Spring and Fall are just right for golfing!
