I recently upgraded from FC2 to FC3, running it on an IBM Thinkpad. While using FC2, I was able to get my Linksys Wireless Card working pretty easily, using ndiswrapper, but since the upgrade, the wlan0 network connection has been inactive, and I can't seem to get it to work. Using the Network Configuration tools, I try to activate it, and although it worked fine with FC2, now it is telling me this:

"Device wlan0 has different MAC address than expected, ignoring"

And then it just doesn't do anything. It won't activate it or anything. I tried removing and re-loading the device driver using ndiswrapper and the driver I used for FC2, but it still won't work.

Any suggestions? Or does anyone know what's even going on?

Thanks for any help

Do you have the orinoco_cs module loaded. ' lsmod ' to list modules. If try ' modprobe orinoco '. If that does not work then you will need to compile the kernel and add the hermes modules to it. Should be under /lib/modules/**current running kernel version**/kernel/drivers/net/wireless

Does your /etc/modprobe.conf define your eth* nic?

What model is your linksys card? I use the LinkSys WPC55AG. It's an Atheros based chipset so the madwifi drivers work with it. I have to download the latest CVS of madwifi for it to work in FC3 but it works flawlessly. Just have to do a "make; make intall" in the CVS download directory and that's it. Of course if your LinkSys card is not Atheros based then ignore all of this.

you can try this out

Applications-Systems Settings-Network

Your wlan device should be vissible eg wlan0

Double click device wlan0

Dialog Ethernet device opens up

Select tab hardware device

This will show a Bind to MAC address (note mac address)

Carry out Probe

This will change the device to the correct Mac Address (if not the same)
