Q1 How do i make/mod my own kicker?
2 what are the requirements for the icons used?

kde isnt the only kicker gnome has it to,
the start /applications menu is what i want to modify.

If you want to modify your "start/applications" menu items, poke around in /usr/share/applications.
The contents of *.desktop files describe what you see in your "start/applications" menu.

VERY CAREFULLY!!
Remember, if you mess one of those files up without a backup or some other way of recovering/remembering what you did, you can mess up the system menus. KDE has a menu editor that works for the user, but I don't think Gnome has migrated fully to the freedesktop.org conventions yet.

NO,no,no i dont want to add apps to the list or take them away i want to make my bar with my own "start" button.
IS there a gnome.kde source file i can look at to work this out?

There are a couple of other projects to create a "panel" that isn't window-manager specific - try searching at freshmeat.net - I think that's what you'll want.
