I've just installed FC3 x86_64, and I'm having some problems with one of my sound cards. The kernel detects it and loads the driver, but I don't get any sound from anything. I'm using kernel 2.6.10-1.741_FC3. Here is my modprobe.conf:
alias snd-card-1 snd-ice1724
options snd-card-1 index=1
install snd-ice1724 /sbin/modprobe --ignore-install snd-ice1724 && /usr/sbin/als actl restore >/dev/null 2>&1 || :
remove snd-ice1724 { /usr/sbin/alsactl store >/dev/null 2>&1 || : ; }; /sbin/mod probe -r --ignore-remove snd-ice1724
I haven't really used linux before and I have no idea how to get this working. My audigy works fine and I had this revolution 7.1 working briefly in Mandrake 9.1 before. Any suggestions?

Check the ALSA Audio Mixer in Sound and Video. I'll bet your volumes are all muted or turned off. Open the panel and check the main and the various inputs. Leave it open while running Soundcard Detection in System Settings and check the various inputs until you get the one that gives you the sound you're supposed to hear on the Soundcard test (fast 4-note scale).

I too have the same problem
I have installed FC3. Sound was working initially but now i can only hear it faintly. i pluged my speaker into the "line-in" socket in my sound card. I have full volume but no control.
I tried varying the volume control in the "volume controller" but it did not work.
i read in linuxhelp fourm (http://www.linuxhelp.ca/forums/index.php?act=ST&f=9&t=5015&hl=sound&), an update of kernel might help.
Any suggestions?

Its not the mixer, that's the first thing I checked. The sound test goes to the did you hear the sound immediately... it doesn't even try to play.

same here with snd-via82xx ... i guess.. most hardware problems with FC3 are about sound cards.. especially the built-in ones..

Does XMMS look like it is "playing" at the correct speed, or is its time counter flying at 100 miles a second?

It always plays thru the audigy no matter what I set the card to. If I try changing it in the soundcard detection program, it doesn't stick. Its set back to the audigy next time I check.

I can see how a distro might make the assumption of 1 sound card... yank it out while you try to get the other one working?
